Winemaker’s Comments
Cepage is the French word for “grape variety.” For our Cepage we are referring to the noble Bordeaux varieties, with each of the different varietals bringing their unique and distinguishing characteristics to this wine. When creating a blend we look at balance as well as individuality. We are known for the unique characteristics of the variety of blends that we make, in essence we enjoy and pride ourselves on this reputation.
Meritage
"Meritage", pronounced like “heritage,” was coined to help consumers identify wines that represent the highest form of the winemaker’s art, blending. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify handcrafted wines blended from the traditional “noble” Bordeaux varietals. A red Meritage is made from a blend of two or more of the following varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, St. Macaire, Gros Verdot, and Carmenere. No single variety may make up more than 90 percent of the blend.
